https://www.sqlpass.de/groups/rg-hannover/

on the Way to Fabric …
kommen einige Fragen ?

What’s new in Fabric?
Wir brechen im April mit der Regel
“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”
Depending on the audience, we will do the session in English:
In April, we break the famous rule:
„What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas“
So we tell you about the new cool stuff in Fabric, that has been announced at FabricConf.com in Las Vegas. We will take a look at the features, with some live demos and as usual for our community, we will debate on how to use them best and
what to be considered when implementing it.

PASS Hannover und Tom Martens: Microsoft Fabric will solve our analytical challenges, but how do we organize it?!
https://www.sqlpass.de/groups/rg-hannover/
Tom Martens:
Microsoft Fabric will change the analytical landscape, help solve the most demanding analytical challenges, and provide deep insight derived from our data assets. I assume we have heard, read, or seen these slogans: “Unified analytics fabric – End-to-end analytics data fabric – From the data lake to the business user.” Some might call me biased because I’m a Microsoft Data Platform MVP, but I’m convinced these slogans are true.
Nevertheless, we had access to the early bits and bytes of Fabric before the public preview, we have been working (to be honest and precise: we have been experimenting) with Fabric for more than a year. Still, we did not make up our minds about how we would organize working with Fabric. The reasons are e.g., is a Fabric solution made from a single workspace (not counting the workspaces from deployment pipeline(s)), or are there more workspaces contributing to the solutions? We also do not know how to organize the solutions around the new Fabric capacities. Will a solution “own” multiple capacities, or only one or two, and share compute power with other teams, utilizing the idea of the share economy?
If you are a data architect, a Power BI Admin, or a Power BI Developer who is already working with Fabric or you are planning to work with Microsoft Fabric, I will share some of our findings, experiences, and feelings about Fabric. Be aware that I cannot call our current state of thinking “best practice.” We do not use Fabric in production, but we are preparing to use it. This session is not about the latest bits of configuring Spark compute, but it helps to understand some intricacies of the Power BI workspace. To follow along it will help to have an idea about the differences between PaaS and SaaS services, I will provide a short introduction, though.

RG Hamburg 2024/05: Understanding visual calculations in Power BI (Alberto Ferrari, SQLBI.com)
Hi, awesome Data People!
We have to announce the next big event at short notice because we have the chance to have one of the top DAX & Power BI experts in town, Alberto Ferrari from SQLBI. And, yes, he agreed to give a really cool talk.
And many thanks to Computer Futures for spontaneously offering us a venue! You people are amazing!
18:00 Open door and warm up networking round
18:15 Intro
18:30 Talk
20:00 Open discussion about Power BI/DAX & your data
21:00 The End…
## Understanding visual calculations in Power BI
Visual calculations are a new 2024 feature in Power BI, aiming at making it simpler for users to develop calculations at the visual level. Visual calculations are implemented through a new set of DAX functions and the VISUAL SHAPE clause in DAX queries. In this session, we introduce the feature, and then we quickly go down to discover how it is implemented, when to use it, and what not to expect from the feature, so to make educated choices about when to use it or not.
Alberto started working with SQL Server in 2000 and immediately his interest focused on Business Intelligence. He and Marco Russo created sqlbi.com, where they publish extensive content about Business Intelligence.
Alberto published several books about Analysis Services, Power BI, and Power Pivot. He is a Microsoft MVP and he earned the SSAS Maestro title, the highest level of certification on Microsoft Analysis Services technology.
Today, Alberto’s main activities are in the delivery of DAX and data modeling workshops for Power BI and Analysis Services all around the world. Alberto offers consulting services on large and complex data warehouses to provide assessments and validation of project analysis or to perform specific problem-solving activities.
Alberto is a well-known speaker at many international conferences, like PASS Summit, Sqlbits, and Microsoft Ignite. He loves to be on stage both at large events and at smaller user groups meetings, exchanging ideas with other SQL and BI fans. When traveling for work, he likes to engage with local user groups to provide evening sessions about his favorite topics. Thus, you can easily meet Alberto by looking up local Power BI user groups during scheduled courses.
Outside of SQLBI, most of Alberto’s personal time is spent practicing video games, in the vain hope of eventually beating his son.
See you there!
